HR Strategy

For organisations of all sizes, an effective HR strategy will create value. It will provide confidence and a united mission. HR strategy planning facilitates effective decision making and supports the human-first future of the organisation. We work with companies to blueprint a specific HR project, like the employee lifecycle; talent retention; or a restructure.

HumanX is the team of human resources experts ready to supercharge your HR strategy

HR strategies bring together your people with your plans. The purpose of a strategy is to align your business goals with your human capital, mapping out the activities and achievements needed to smash those ambitious targets whilst curating a modern, human-first environment.

When is it time to create or update a HR strategy?

Blue chevron arrow down

If you do not already have a HR strategy, there’s no time to waste. Gone are the days of red tape, bureaucracy and waiting for an annual review. To grow, organisations, as well as humans, must assess and evolve regularly. It’s healthy and exciting to change! Speak to our teams to get started with your bespoke HR strategy.

If you do have a plan in place, there may still be instances where it needs to be reviewed or even scrapped and replaced. A strategy is a guideline, which should be constantly reassessed. If your HR strategy is no longer fit for purpose, it isn’t serving anyone to blindly stick to it or follow it to the letter.

Often, businesses choose to recreate their HR strategy when they are going through change, perhaps an acquisition, organisation restructuring or new business direction. Alternatively, it’s also a good idea to go back to the drawing board when certain issues come up, such as regular or recurring disputes, siloed teams fracturing the workplace, or consistent employee feedback that focuses on one area of the business. To create an effective HR strategy, speak to the team at HumanX HR.

Who needs a HR strategy?

The short answer: every organisation needs a HR strategy.

Having business goals without planning a HR strategy is like having a ladder that doesn’t have steps.

You have a purpose, but no means of getting there. It’s unrealistic. These organisations will lack direction, and often motivation. You’ll be ticking items off the to-do list without really moving forward.

‍Whether you are looking to manage a challenge that your business is facing, are still crafting an identity, or you are just planning for the future, a HR strategy directs, instructs and prepares you. ‍ Whatever stage you’re at, HumanX can help - even if you need a HR audit before diving right into the strategy.

How do HumanX work with their partners to create a bespoke HR strategy?

Blue chevron arrow down

HumanX partners with boards, executive teams and leaders to develop a strategy that’s tailored to the organisation. We’ll challenge the way you think, what your assumptions are and how things are done.

We don’t believe in “because that’s the way things have always been done”. ‍We bring our arsenal of expertise and experience to the table. We are agile business consultants with ambitious mindsets and a proven track record of propelling business successes. ‍We have the advantage of objectivity and a ‘big picture’ view of the organisation. This helps you uncover risks you were too close to see and opportunities that were too hidden to find and feed them into a roadmap. HumanX can then act as long-term HR partners to oversee implementation, or act as consultants.

Why is a HR strategy important?

Blue chevron arrow down

Ultimately, a HR strategy is the blueprint that’s going to align your business goals with your people. HumanX’s HR strategies provide direction - we stop organisations from just ‘shooting in the dark’ when it comes to their people. Perhaps most importantly, we also help to make sure your actions are measurable so you can understand the impact of the HR function to the wider business and against wider KPIs.

Without a HR strategy, ideas are less likely to turn into initiatives. Projects are less likely to get across the line. Change can become one of those things that is spoken about, but never delivered, and the culture of the workplace becomes stagnant and unproductive, perhaps even negative.

HR strategies are important because they are motivating. They are accelerants, and HumanX is on hand to help you every step of the way.

Is a HR strategy a one-off piece of work?

Blue chevron arrow down

HR strategies can come in two parts: the blueprint and the implementation. Both are equally important for success.

The blueprint, you can think of it as the HR strategy roadmap, will be based on internal research, such as engagement surveys and employee feedback, as well as HR expertise and business acumen. It must also be founded in data. The document, or HR strategy, itself will then map out the actions and initiatives that must take place in order to achieve business goals. This will include both short term (prioritised actions) and long term tasks. This half of a HR strategy can be delivered as a one-off piece of work, like a project. In house teams can then follow the blueprint and action those recommendations.

However, we can also be flexible, operating as consultants to provide oversight whilst this strategy is being actioned. Alternatively, you can work with HumanX as your outsourced HR partner to implement these changes and manage your HR function for as long as you need.

Our HR is too Toby-from-the-office

Everyone has strengths, both as professionals and as people. There are many situations in which using an external HR consultant is a more effective option.

Ultimately, HR can be a tricky position to hold in an organisation; striking the balance between employee-support and communicating the company’s message; empathy versus becoming an agony aunt; being the champion of culture whilst also being the person managing risk.

Bringing in HumanX to support your team means that everyone can play to their strengths. Our experts can create space for critical conversations, feedback honestly, without agenda, and help leaders make decisions based on real information. We can support Toby with performance management plans and work to achieve company goals together.

Our HR department needs support

Modern HR leaders require skills in project management, business strategy, commercial awareness, coaching, talent management, compliance and workplace relations, remuneration, learning and development, and of course recruitment.

Outsourced HR experts can support the internal team without the distractions of politics, everyday requests and growing to do lists. Able to operate as an independent squad with a single focus or integrate into the team and fly alongside the existing HR managers to lead and deliver on projects, new initiatives or help cope with capacity.

Need to get more out of the experts you already have

For business leaders who are craving space – both time and brain-space - a great HR team will understand that it is their job to enable people to do their best work. Choosing the right talent (or inviting the right talent to choose your business), designing a best-in-class learning and development program, and ensuring that your remuneration strategy is on point will help.

The gamechanger: coaching your leaders. This is the space where humans will grow, engage, and find their superpowers. Coaching is a skill in itself, it’s not every leader’s natural state. Great HR professionals have been equipped with coaching skills and understand that coaching is an ego-less journey that is critical to developing exceptional leaders. Structured coaching programs are a brilliant extra, but coaching in the workflow, and in day-to-day interactions between HR and leaders is a valuable must-have.

My team tells me that communication needs improvement

If your team is feeding back to you that communication in the organisation needs improvement, they’re trying to tell you (without risking their jobs) that your communication needs improvement. Whether this is your communication directly, or as a leadership team, or simply internal systems and processes are not effective at allowing the flow of information, we can help.

Bringing external HR experts into a situation like this is efficient; we are able to zoom out and diagnose issues and challenges - from communication that may be causing frustration and high employee turnover to the root cause of disengagement. Better than that, we will also work with your organisation to develop the HR function to resolve any concerns, improve processes and mature the company’s approach to your people.

Get started with a fresh HR Strategy

Do you have an employee engagement strategy? We can often get so in the weeds of the fire fighting and overcoming the everyday challenges that businesses face. It’s natural to focus on what’s right in front of us.

HumanX HR thinks about the big picture. It’s front and centre of our attention. Always.

A HR strategy evolves and breathes because humans do. Our role is to always be serving them, crafting quality working experiences to achieve progress, development and push towards your goals for your people.

Let’s talk about how we can create a bespoke HR strategy for you.
